Our Origin Story

This wasn’t supposed to happen.

VaultPlayer has an unusually good origin story because it isn’t manufactured corporate bollocks.

There was no business plan. No investor pitch. No carefully researched gap in the market. And absolutely nobody sat in a meeting and decided the world needed another streaming platform.

It started on 3 May 2026 because my Netflix subscription declined.

I didn’t have the money to renew it.

I lost my temper.

So I built VaultPlayer.

Originally, it was only ever meant to be for me, my friends and my family.

The idea was simple:

Search → Click → Watch.

No subscriptions. No adverts. No jumping between six different services trying to work out where something was available.

Just search for something, click it, and watch it.

That was it.

Then VaultPlayer escaped into the outside world.

Somewhere along the way, people outside that little circle found it.

Then more people found it.

Then people started telling other people about it.

Suddenly, this thing I’d built because Netflix declined my payment was being used by complete strangers.

Then by people in other countries.

Then by people in parts of the world I’d never remotely expected VaultPlayer to reach.

At that point, there were really two options:

Shut the door…

…or keep building.

I kept building.

And that’s where the origin story ends.

Because after that, things got slightly out of hand.

VaultPlayer stopped being a half-hour experiment and started becoming the thing it is today.

There were new features. New versions. New apps. New ways to watch. Things broke. Things got fixed. Things broke again.

At one point I accidentally deleted the fucking server.

And somewhere in amongst all of that, the little thing I built because I was annoyed and broke became something used by people all over the world.

That’s no longer the origin story.

That’s VaultPlayer’s history.

The reason behind VaultPlayer, though, hasn’t really changed since that first night.

There was never some grand ambition to build a streaming platform.

I was annoyed, broke, and wanted to watch something.

Apparently that was enough.
